We are located in Southwest Missouri & have built a state of the art facility for our dogs; complete with climate control & indoor/outdoor dog runs. We have 50 acres for our Standard Poodles to enjoy and obtain optimum exercise & health. Do not mistake us for a puppy mill as we are in the breeding business for the "love of the dogs" and the enjoyment of bringing well-bred, healthy, happy puppies to you, our customers. We are not just your "run-of-the-mill" kennels. We are regularly inspected by the State of Missouri for health, cleanliness, care of the dogs, nutrition, vaccinations, medical care, & accurate record keeping. We just passed our Missouri State Inspection without one demerit. Happy Tails Standard Poodles is not just a kennel; it’s a "home" for not just our dogs, but for us as well. We spend 7 days a week with our dogs & many times, 24 hours a day. We have built our new home right next door to the facility but we are never more than a few steps away.

I have owned many kinds of dogs throughout the years but when Standard Poodles took over my life I realized I could not spend an unhappy day with these dogs in my world! They have brought me such happiness that I can't imagine a day where I wouldn't have a dog at my side. Standard Poodles are so special & loyal; they just won’t let you be sad.

After retiring from ICU Nursing & a City Clerks job, my best friend, Julie & I choose to raise Standard Poodles and it has been the best decision we have ever made. My experience as an ICU nurse for 30 years has helped me daily in understanding the medical & nutritional needs of our dogs & researching their genetic backgrounds. Hard work, yes; but work we love to do!

Julie & I have been best friends for more than 45 years. Having been so close for many years, people mistake us for sisters because we often complete each other's sentences. Julie is our resident "dog whisperer" and has the uncanny ability to connect with every dog she meets. She spends countless hours playing with our puppies and socializing them and the end result is a confident, happy, gentle dog. These puppies have never known anything but love. Julie and I both handle them daily & that is the best part of our day. Nothing is more relaxing or rewarding than rocking a puppy in a rocking chair & helping that puppy develop to its full potential.

Our veterinarian, Dr. Dake, from Miller, Missouri is available to us on nearly a 24 hour basis. He has taught us so much about raising healthy puppies and how to best protect them. We never go more than a few days without talking to him & he is an endless supply of advice & knowledge. We work with other Breeders to develop & maintain good lines and give every effort to the care and nutrition of our Standard Poodles. The first step in that process is choosing good breeding stock from only the best Breeders of which we have had lots of advice & help.

And lastly, a word to the wise, please buy your puppy from a responsible breeder.  Believe me it will save you heartache and dollars in the future.  By doing this you will not be supporting puppy mills that exploit dogs & keep them in deplorable conditions just for profit.  Puppy Mills and pet shops, those who exploit the popularity of the Poodle in order to make a fast buck, buy their dogs in litters, usually by mail, as early as 5 weeks of age.  Puppies are not even weaned at that age.  They are not concerned with temperament, hereditary faults or quality; they are simply interested in volume so they can make maximum dollars.  They do not bother about medical care & are not interested in what happens to the dog after it is sold.

Ethical breeders make huge investments in quality breeding stock and take excellent care of their dogs. They work closely with their Veterinarians to keep their dogs in tip-top shape; as health is everything when breeding dogs. Some people make the mistake of buying a dog because they feel sorry for it; don’t! If you can’t afford to buy from a breeder please go to the Humane Society and adopt one of the many dogs that are available.
